Parkinsons Family Support

The JF&CS Parkinson’s Family Support program was initiated by two donors who recognized that their fathers’ Parkinson’s disease affected their entire families, particularly their mothers, who are the caregivers.

Living with Parkinson’s Disease and making lifestyle adaptations can be very challenging. Although there is presently no cure for the disease, advancements in medications; surgical interventions; physical, occupational, and speech and language therapy can all play a role in improving quality of life with Parkinson’s Disease. Often, the best source of ideas and support can be others who understand what living with this disease requires.

At JF&CS we have the expertise and experience to provide caregivers and persons with Parkinson’s Disease with education, resources, networking and support services that positively impact quality of life. Our support group brings in expert speakers each month to address innovative approaches to living well with the disease. Caregivers and individuals with Parkinson’s have a chance to meet to share strategies and provide support. Support groups are run by an occupational therapist and social workers.

The program offers:

  • Monthly support group for individuals with Parkinson’s and their caregivers
  • Free one-time home safety evaluations and family consultations
  • Information and referral services
  • Wellness programming
  • CEU presentations and training programs on Parkinson’s care
  • Support group for adult children of people with Parkinson’s
