Feeding Support

A Mother's Choice
Every mother-baby pair has their own unique pattern of interaction.

Our feeding support program recognizes and acknowledges that feeding is more than a physical relationship, it is also an emotional one. It is an intimate connection that cannot be isolated from a woman's entire postpartum experience.

Our belief is in each woman's choice. Each woman needs to make a feeding choice based on what she knows about herself, her baby and her own unique circumstances.

Certified Lactation Consultants
Our feeding support staff is made up of registered nurses and internationally board certified lactation consultants. Their extensive training allows for assessment of effective breastfeeding, identification of problems, problem solving and reinforcement support. They recognize the multifaceted challenges and complexities of all feeding experiences (breast and bottle) and thus share information in the context of the mother's experience and her developing relationship with her infant.

Continuity of Care
Our family focused feeding support program is an integral part of the continuity of care of the Center for Early Relationship Support. Home visits and/or office visits may also build the bridge to our Visiting Moms, Early Connections, Support Groups and other services.

Breastfeeding mothers need the support of a community, skilled helpers and other women. In addition to helping mothers with the early challenges in the feeding relationship, our staff supports mothers who are returning to work, introducing solids, experiencing an unexpected separation, weaning, in need of nutritional guidance and more.

Our program provides women with the care and monitoring of the feeding relationship that every mother-infant pair deserves.
