Family Table
JF&CS Family Table, Greater Boston’s Kosher food pantry, provides healthy, nutritious food on a monthly and emergency basis to individuals and families in need. We are presently serving almost 400 families in need who are identified by rabbis, religious school directors and social workers.
Family Table participants receive groceries, including staples, fresh produce, dairy and protein rich foods, personal hygiene products, Jewish holiday and ritual items such as challah and Shabbat candles. The program promotes healthy eating and collaborates closely with the JF&CS Nutrition Program.
Our food pantry program depends on the efforts of hundreds of volunteers from the community, synagogues, and day schools that collect, sort, pack and deliver groceries for our recipient families. Kosher and parve food collections take place at 48 area synagogues and day schools each month.
Food donations are brought to the Food Pantry once a month, and are sorted and packed by volunteers who deliver the food, personal care items, and household items to recipient's homes throughout Greater Boston. Families, including young children, can volunteer for a few hours once a year and really feel that they can make a difference. The program is especially popular because children experience hands-on tzedakah.
JF&CS Center for Family Assistance, provides case management for Family Table recipients and others in need, and can help people in several other ways, including providing emergency grants and loans, camp scholarships, holiday toys, access to health insurance, and free legal assistance. In addition, Family Table staff offer “Face Hunger,” a hunger awareness workshop, to community groups and organizations.
