Community Housing for Adult Independence (CHAI) is a supported housing program that provides daily living support to adults with disabilities who seek to live independently in their own homes or in small group living situations. Supervision varies from 24-hour to several hours per week, based on each individual's needs. CHAI serves adults with a wide range of physical and intellectual disabilities including mental retardation, autism, significant learning disabilities, and persistent psychiatric illness.

Supervised Living offers independent living in a small congregate setting and provides staffing whenever residents are at home. All meals are provided in Supervised Living.

Supported Living offers assistance to adults with disabilities living in their own apartments in a clustered setting. The level of support varies depending on the needs of the consumer.

CHAI develops an individualized package of services for each prospective client. The types of supports that are often put in place include:

  • Assistance with daily living activities including laundry, shopping, meal preparation, medication management, personal care, and budgeting.
  • Skills training including using public transportation, money management, planning social and recreational activities, managing appointments, reading and other academic skills.
  • Emotional support to prevent psychiatric crises.
  • Opportunities to participate in a wide range of community and recreational activities.
  • Support to those who are interested in pursuing connections with local religious congregations and opportunities for residents to participate in Jewish learning.
